Red Deer Royals

There is more around us than what we call home. Look beyond and look within. “The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.”

Our orbit changes our view from dusk to dawn, bringing light to darkness, and knowing to the unknown. “Exploration is in our nature. We began as wanderers, and we are wanderers still. We have lingered long enough on the shores of the cosmic ocean. We are ready at last to set sail for the stars.”

8 planets in our solar system, hundreds of billions of galaxies each with hundreds of billions of stars. “The Earth is a very small stage in a vast, cosmic arena.”  Look up into the sky and you will see the vastness of what is beyond.

Under the direction of Calista Lonsdale-Pangle, the Red Deer Royals are excited to present their 2024 field show, “Beyond”.

Numbering 53 members and now celebrating their 55th year, the Red Deer Royals are “Central Alberta’s World Class Marching Show Band”. Calgary Stampede Showband

We stumble upon a ghost town, thus unfolding an eerie narrative. Initially captivated by the mystery of the town, we discover an unsettling ambiance beneath the surface. As the minutes tick by, the spectral presence becomes palpable, revealing the town's haunted secrets. The atmosphere shifts into encounters with the undead.

The experience evolves into a haunting dance of the spiritual, a mesmerizing spectacle that spirals into chaos, culminating in a spectral brawl. Tension between the living and the dead becomes the focal point, symbolizing the struggle between two worlds. The dissonance mirrors the complexities of coexistence, blurring the boundaries between life and the afterlife.

Yet, out of the macabre discord, an ethical and moral understanding emerges. A poignant message that fosters appreciation for the unliving: the beauty in embracing both life and the ethereal, urging us to find harmony amidst the discord of existence.

Featuring the music of Ennio Morricone, Elmer Bernstein, Bruno Coulais, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Taylor Swift, and James Newton Howard, the Calgary Stampede Showband is proud to present their 2024 Production of “Ghost Town”.

Representing the Calgary Stampede is the world-renowned Calgary Stampede Showband. These 140 versatile and talented young performers are proud to preserve and celebrate our western heritage, cultures and community spirit and are known for their high level of professionalism, innovative performances, and unique visual entertainment. The Showband is designed to celebrate youth achievement in the community while delivering a world-class performing arts program for Calgary’s youth. The program fosters citizenship, artistic creation, and performance excellence that showcases Calgary and the Stampede to the world. Formed by the Calgary Stampede in 1971, the Stampede Showband makes over 200 appearances annually. In 2014, the Showband was presented with the distinguished “Sudler Shield” from the John Philip Sousa Foundation, one of the highest forms of recognition for marching band programs.
