Marching band is a combination of music and movement to produce unforgettable experiences for members and audiences alike. We parade, perform field shows, and do pop-up performances in various events, entertaining millions of people every year. Anyone who has been in one can tell you why they love being a part of it - may it be the welcoming sense of community, the life skills, the active lifestyles, the performing, and so much more - these are why members keep coming back for more.

A Summer Like No Other
-
The season consists of weekly rehearsals, parade performances (like the world-famous Stampede Parade) and the development of a 10-minute field show, which utilizes both musical and visual pageantry elements to tell a story.
September to June
Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 6:15 p.m. - 9:15 p.m.
1 weekend per month (Saturday and Sunday) from 8:15 a.m. - 5 p.m.
June 30 - July 16
Daily rehearsals and performances from 8:40 a.m. - 5 p.m.
-
The main performance season begins in May and continues through July. The annual tour varies based on destination and performing opportunities, and past tours have included the United States, Taiwan and Europe, amongst many Canadian cities.
-
The Calgary Round-Up Band is for students in Grades 7, 8 and 9, while the Calgary Stetson Show Band is for students in Grades 10, 11 and 12. Both bands are non-auditioned programs for students interested in playing a musical instrument (brass, woodwind, percussion) or dance (colourguard). No previous experience is required to join, and instrumentalists are encouraged to be enrolled in their school music program. Space may be limited in some sections, and students may be offered the opportunity to explore another instrument or section.
Additionally, members must be able to provide valid proof of vaccination.
-
As a non-profit organization, our operating expenses are primarily covered by annual fees and fundraising.
Operating costs are also offset by fundraising activities including bingos, casinos and corporate donations. Fundraising activities require involvement by all band families. Additional optional member-motivated fundraising is available to help offset the cost of tour fees. Calgary Round-Up band is a registered Canadian Charity. contras, baritones, mellophones (for tuba, euphonium and French horn musicians)
percussion instruments and equipment
colourguard equipment
All other instruments are to be provided by the member, whether they are personally owned or rented from their school board or another institution
-
A field show is a high-energy performance that portrays a story or theme through music, movement and choreography. Each year, a different theme is chosen to provide audiences and members alike with a unique performance experience.
-
To help offset high costs of the program, each member of Summer Like No Other is required to fulfill 6 bingo credits under their name by the end of the season.
For 1 volunteer, a 5-hour bingo shift for 1 fulfills one (1) credit, while an 8-hour double bingo shift fulfills two (2) credits.
Bingo volunteers need to be 18 or older, and will be provided training on site for tasks such as selling various games, verifying bingo calls, and managing sales. Volunteers typically sign up for all of their shifts as early as possible to ensure choice in spots, and shifts can take place in the Grey Eagle Casino, the Bingo Palace and the Bingo Barn.
Demerits will be given to the bands if volunteers fail to show up or fail to follow each hall’s rules, so communicating with coordinators and waitlist volunteers is important.
